Ampere (A) - Unit of electrical current strength.

Billing Demand - The peak or highest power consumption rate during the billing period, usually measured in kilowatts (1000 watts).

Billing Period - This term shall refer to the time period between two successive, scheduled meter readings.

Consumer - Any person, firm, corporation or entity receiving electric service from the Cooperative.  Generally, consumers will be members of the Cooperative in accordance with the Cooperative's Bylaws.  Prospective consumers may be referred to as "Applicants, Developers, or as Property Owners."

Cooperative - The Traverse Electric Cooperative, A Minnesota non-profit membership corporation engaged in the distribution and sale of electrical energy.

Cycles - Appliances made for use in the United States operate at 60 Hz. Appliances made for use in most of Europe operate at 50 Hz.

Distribution - All wires, cables, poles, towers, fixtures, apparatus, and other equipment.
    
Facilities - installed in the Cooperative’s electric distribution system.

Hertz (Hz) - or Alternating current in cycles per second also the frequency of A.C. change.

Horsepower - Unit of mechanical power equivalent to .746 kilowatts of electrical power.

Kilo (k) - Prefix meaning 1000

Kilovolts - One thousand volts

Kilovolt Ampere Unit - apparent electrical power equivalent to one kilowatt at 100% power (KVA) factor.
                    
Kilowatt - Unit of electrical power representing energy usage rate, equivalent to about 1.34 horsepower.

Permanent -  This term will designate facilities or buildings which are installed on a permanent, rather than a temporary basis.  Buildings (including mobile homes) will not be considered permanent unless having an approved water supply and septic system and foundation or slab.

Power Factor (pf) - A ratio of true power KW to apparent power (KVA)

Primary - This term designates the voltage level of the Cooperative's distribution facilities on the supply side of the transformer.  Primary voltages will usually be 7200/12,500 volts or 14,400/24,900 volts, but never less than 2,400 volts.

Seasonal -  This term will designate consumer facilities or premises which are active, in use, or inhabited on a part-time basis, or during certain months of the year.

Secondary - This term will designate the voltage level of the Cooperative's distribution facilities on the load side of the service transformer.  Secondary voltages will usually, but not necessarily always be 120, 208, 240, 277, or 480 volts.

Volt (V) - Unit of electrical pressure or force.

Year Around - This term will designate consumers, facilities or premises which are active, in use or inhabited on a regular daily basis during all months of the year.
