Rebates and Incentives

If you are building a new home or are thinking about replacing your current heating system, you may be eligible to receive rebates through Traverse Electric as follows: 

Baseboard, Plenum heater, Ceiling cable and Fan forced 

  • Dual fuel rate is 5.62 cents. To qualify for the dual fuel rate, member must have a fossil fuel backup.

  • Uncontrolled electric rate is 5.62 cents.

  • Meter and receiver furnished by Traverse Electric.

  • Submeter charge per month is $4.00.

Floor cable Cabinet storage

  • Dual fuel is 5.62 cents. No backup system is needed.

  • Meter and receiver furnished by Traverse Electric.

  • Submeter charge per month is $4.00.

Air to air or ground source system - 2 ton or larger

  • The heat pump (outside unit only) must meet the DOE manufacturing standard for HSPE efficiency.  (For 2022 the DOE standard is 8.8.)

  • Dual fuel is 5.62 cents. To qualify for the dual fuel rate, member must have a fossil fuel backup.

  • Uncontrolled electric rate is 5.62 cents.

  • Meter and receiver furnished by Traverse Electric.

  • Submeter charge per month is $4.00.

  • Equipment must be new, under 2 tons and electrical ductless equipment.

  • The equipment must meet the DOE manufacturing standard for HSPE efficiency.  (For 2022 the DOE standard is 8.8.)

  • Only one ductless electric heating (Mini-Split) incentive payment will be paid per structure every 10 years.  A member may apply for and receive both a residential electric heating rebate and a ductless rebate in the same structure within 10 years as long as the rebates cover separate pieces of equipment.

  • Condos, townhomes and duplexes will be considered as individual units if each living unit has its own heating system and meets the minimum qualifications above.

  • Electric Heat Incentive Levels Are:

East River Rebate                    Traverse Electric Rebate                    Total

Traverse Electric will provide rebate payments to the members for Energy Star listed refrigerators, freezers, clothes washers, dishwashers and clothes dryers.

Rebate Amounts from Traverse Electric are:

Refrigerators - $50

Freezers - $50

Dishwashers - $25

Clothes Washers - $25

Clothes Dryers - $25

*Proof of disposal is required for refrigerators and freezers. The purpose of the appliance rebate program is to remove inefficient models from use.

**One rebate per appliance.  Appliances must be replacement appliances placed in permanent residences. Rebates do not apply to appliances placed in seasonal residences, new construction or farm shops.

Traverse Electric will offer incentives for the replacement of inefficient lighting systems in nonresidential settings.

  • The Member Services person will verify that new lights were installed.

  • The maximum incentive payment allowed is $1000 per structure ($500 from East River & $500 from Traverse Electric). Board Policy No. 307 Page 3

  • The incentives will be calculated based on the total watts reduced. The incentive is 20 cents per watt reduction (10 cents from East River and 10 cents from Traverse Electric).
